Clementine Kline's Mitzvah Project
About The Project
Hi, My name is Clementine Kline and I am twelve years old. I am currently preparing for my Bat Mitzvah, and a part of that is completing a mitzvah project. A mitzvah project is something that kids preparing for a Bar or Bat Mitzvah perform to help a cause that they care about. That is why I have decided to volunteer at and raise money for Little Brook Farm in Old Chatham, NY. Little Brook is one of the oldest horse rescues in the U.S. They rescue horses from slaughter, abandonment, abuse, and neglect.
There is a very special and devoted community at Little Brook Farm. I have been riding and getting to know their horses since I was just 5. It’s amazing to learn the backstory of each horse. They’re action-packed adventures full of emotion, hope, trust, love. LBF’s owner Lynn Cross and her daughter Summer are real heroes. Some of the stories of how they rescue the horses are hair-raising (For example Summer singlehandedly rounding up a herd of 15 WILD horses in 2018).
Since the pandemic hit, Little Brook Farm hasn’t been able to hold classes, lessons, camps, or their annual gala. That is how they would normally raise funds to help pay for tons of daily expenses like hay, farriers, medicine, and vet bills (which are especially big this summer with the recent illnesses of Falcon, Benny, and Sherman. You can read about their stories on Little Brook’s Instagram and Facebook).
I have been volunteering at Little Brook, and I also created a GoFundMe page to help them. For people who contribute $36 (a multiple of chai) or more, I will hand paint a custom horseshoe with the name of a horse that they like or find interesting from my stories page "Some Horses I Love"
It would mean so much to me and Little Brook if you could contribute. There is no amount too small to be helpful, and every dollar will be greatly appreciated! Please go to the “How To Donate” page to learn more!
